Saving Private Lynch
Maybe it’s just me, but what happened to Jessica Lynch? I hadn’t thought about it for quite a while, but the media attention given to her midnight rescue and the story behind the young West Virginia girl has disappeared. I realize that hearing about the Scott Peterson trial is FAR more important than the story of a soldier’s capture and the daring rescue to bring her home. But the complete story hasn’t been told yet, and I, for one, would rather hear about this than some wack-job psychopath who offed his wife.
And on the subject of missing news stories, has anyone heard of a country called Afghanistan? Last I heard, they were supposed to be having elections and moving down the path of democracy. All I hear now is that our soldiers can’t find bin Laden. I guess that must mean there’s nothing newsworthy in the Afghan government. And since only failure and death is newsworthy, things must be going well.

B, in regards to your missing news stories…i have an update. I’m not sure if you caught 60 minutes a few days ago, but Mike Wallace had a refugee on from Afghanistan. It looked like he hadn’t eaten for days or shaved for months. He was hysterical, talking about unfairness, no apologies needed, its his life…oh wait a minute..that was Ricky Williams…speaking of Ricky Williams, can you really blame him? If we look back at all the sports professionals, such as Earl Campbell, who can’t even walk, can we really be upset at a guy for simply wanting to lookout for himself. For not wanting to be a statistic? Players are treated as commodity, traded at will, cut at owners discretion, and used for generating revenue. Okay, granted they are paid well in return, don’t get me wrong, but i still strongly support his decision and hold no ill will towards the guy.
My first reaction to that comment was: Where the hell did that come from? That’s a non-sequitor if I’ve ever seen one.
My second reaction, was to point out my my previous thoughts on celebrities. In other words, I could give a rat’s arse about what Ricky Williams is up to. His life is rough? Boo-f’ing-hoo.
You said “Players are treated as commodity, traded at will, cut at owners discretion, and used for generating revenue.”. Let me ask you this. Is your job any different? You are treated as a resource, fired at your bosses’ discretion, and used for generating revenue. All that without making anywhere near as much as Ricky Williams.
My favorite about Ricky was a quote I found in this story:Williams, 27, said he does not have a girlfriend — ”I haven’t found anyone that fits the bill” — but insisted he is financially supporting the three children he has from three different women. ”I’m a very generous person.”Sounds like a winner to me.
Now, back to our show. (Where did THAT come from?)
The reason that Jessica Lynch has disappeared from the face of the earth is two-fold:
1) SpecOps does not want a whole lot of publicity. These guys need to remain nameless and faceless.
2) More importantly, it was revealed that Jessica was a fraud. She was knocked unconscious at the time of the initial accident and played no role in the ensuing fire-fight. She was NO hero.
There have been stories regarding the election and some surrounding controversies. Interum President Karsai was the winner (big surprise there). Just Google “Afghanistan President” and you’ll ahve about 6 million hits.
