Who the hell is Ed Klein?

Seriously. This guy’s wild accusations are all the rage these days, and the best I can figure out about Ed Klein is that he used to be an editor for Newsweek, and has written some biographies about the Kennedy family. Is this guy truly a right-wing nut, or is he just looking for a quick buck on his book? I’ve never heard of this guy before, so I truly have no idea.

But in the last two days, his accusations in his book have gotten the left all up in arms, as I’ve found out from Dada’s posts here and here.

Apparently, the first charge that made the airwaves is that Hillary is a lesbian. When this one came up, I just laughed it off as fluff. It’s a pretty lame charge, but I just imagined the laughter as the left tried to attack Klein for the smear tactics, all the while failing to champion Hillary’s “diversity”. It was going to be a riot, since I pretty much watch most partisan bickering like a sports fan. But the second charge is truly vile:

Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton turned furious and considered legal action after learning bestselling author Ed Klein would allege in a new book: Bill Clinton raped her — resulting in the conception of daughter Chelsea Clinton!

That’s disgusting. If you study the story, it is so weak that, even if Klein’s word-for-word report is true, still doesn’t prove a damn thing. And if the allegations were true, it would do more to make me feel sorry for Hillary than anything else. But on such weak evidence, I have to wonder what is wrong with Ed Klein that he would even allege something so vile? I hope that nasty, hateful comments like this cause his book to flop, flop, flop.

Let me make myself personally clear. I am no fan of Hillary Clinton. I personally think she’s a megalomaniacal, power-hungry, socialist nanny-stater, who thinks she’s superior to the rest of us. Further, I think she’s an incredibly smart and scheming woman, who has been setting her entire personal persona up for the last 10 years or so to make her own run at the White House. Of course, it’s obvious from her stated politics that the last thing I ever want to see is her become President. She tried when Bill was in office to get socialized health care through the works, and I think that would be a disaster.

But of all my gripes against Hillary, I understand that as much as I want to see her defeated in her run for the White House, vicious claims like that of Klein are just inexcusable. I don’t know who this Klein guy is, but I hope he can crawl back into his hole and stay there.

  1. I smell a setup. I bet Hillary commissioned the Newsweek/NYTimes vet Klein to write the ULTIMATE in outrageous exposés to push ALL the 287 others out of sight and out of mind (and to make KLEIN’s book THE archetype symbolizing them ALL in the public’s minds). Then, when Klein is totally discredited at the “perfect” time, all the fence-sitting pundits, quasi-DemocRATS and historically/politically illiterate swing voters will drift back into the Hillary-fan fold, dismissing EVERY exposé all at once.

Even today the Clintons, as masters of diversion and deception, as perpetrators of innumerable wag-the-dog escapades, still have people believing (as many Republican suckers-for-tarbabies still do) that the essence of the slimeball administration was the sex-and-perjury scandal (instead of the FAR more serious treason and Constitution-crippling outrages).

  2. Rick,
I thought about that, especially since I couldn’t see any history of this guy being a rabid right-winger. But not being a big nut for conspiracy theories (even when the Clintons are involved), I’m going to require evidence before I really lend that theory some credence.

  3. John Fund once suggested, as a funny thought, that Hillary is a plant of Barry Goldwater’s. Everything she’s done for the Left has been a failure, but look at the successes for the Right.

  4. Socialist? That would be the first former-republican socialist I’ve ever heard of…

I disagree that the term ’socialist’ should be thrown around liek that.

  5. I’m talking European-style democratic socialism. Basically I don’t think she’d head us down the path of Stalin-esque pogroms, but I could easily see Hillary and her cohorts turning us into a bloated, inefficient welfare state, crushing economic growth like a bug.

I don’t know what you’d call that, but I consider it socialism.

  6. Well, it quacks and waddles like a socialist duck. I would agree — socialism.
