One of the Coburn Amendments tabled for now…

Which is to say it will probably disappear once us silly citizens stop paying attention, but it hasn’t been officially killed yet.

This was one of the smaller amendments (SA 2093), only dealing with killing funding for a parking lot for the Joslyn Art Museam in Omaha, Nebraska. Why my tax dollars should be funding a parking lot for a museum in Omaha is beyond my comprehension.

The vote was a motion to table, which from my understanding of Robert’s Rules of Order, should not be enough to kill it. Frequently, however, it is used to do so. So unless we fight our Senators to take this up, it’s likely gone.

86 Senators, including my own, voted to table the motion. The 13 who voted to keep it before the floor are listed below. If you happen to be represented by any of these, please let them know that you appreciate their vote. If you have feckless spendthrifts like Johnny Isakson or Saxby Chambliss, please let them know you’re upset.

The good guys:
Allen (R-VA)
Burr (R-NC)
Coburn (R-OK)
DeMint (R-SC)
Ensign (R-NV)
Feingold (D-WI)
Graham (R-SC)
Hagel (R-NE)
Kyl (R-AZ)
McCain (R-AZ)
Sessions (R-AL)
Sununu (R-NH)
Talent (R-MO)

UPDATE: Like fellow 6th District guy Matt Duffy, I’ve called the offices of Senators Isakson and Chambliss to get their thoughts:

Isakson: Left a message with the aide in charge of transportation issues. Awaiting response.

Chambliss: The person I talked to said that they “didn’t know the Senator’s position” on that issue. I don’t have time to push the issue further, but if I see any more votes like the one above, I’m going to have to get a little more involved.

UPDATE 4:50 PM: The amendment cancelling the “Bridge to Nowhere” is now being debated before the Senate (H/T Wizbang). The Club For Growth is live-blogging the debate. Looks like Ted Stevens (R-AK) has blown his top!

  1. The Wrong Pork Cuts

Excuse me, bloggers, but you are going after the wrong pork to chop. Sorry. Wizbang! calls it “A Bridge Too Far.” The Club for Growth had to open a second blog just to follow the debate and the votes on the Senate floor at Sen. Tom Coburn tries to ha…
