Lately, I think of the GOP as money-market guys: you'll always get your one percent, but they have bigger fish to fry while guppies like me double our holdings in 72 years. :)

Brad Warbiany's Mutual Fund Theory of Government: Republicans are bond investors. They think government can offer certain expected returns (services) to you. Those returns aren't very big, but they're dependable....

Yeah, choosing something for Republicans was very difficult, and nothing quite fit right. The point was more against democrats and trying to manage every little bit of society, and that Libertarians would be simpler and yet perform better. I had to come up with something for the Republicans, and bonds were the best I could think of.

It's ironic you use the analogy of the bond investors for Republicans, given their propensity to use debt financing for their version of big government...

I don't quite agree though... You make Republicans seem more conservative than libertarians in the role that government should play for society... If anything, libertarians are the ones advocating a minimalist State...hell, we don't promise _anything_!

I might say that Ls are index funds...Ds would be dot-com and hi-tech funds...and the Rs are emerging market funds... (in keeping with their ambitious foreign policy goals...)

The point being that Republicans think they can manage social programs better by not promising as much.

And Democrats are quick to use the "it's for the CHILDREN" line over and over, and it's gotten them pretty far... It might not be the slickest marketing campaign, but the best marketing campaign is the one that works.

Republicans are good managers of social programs? Democrats have slick marketing campaigns? Would that it were.
