Ronald Reagan Tollway?
Ahh, back in Chi-Town. Already managed to eat some deep dish and stop at Portillo’s– a damn fine start to a holiday.
But I was heading out to my parents’ house, and got on what used to be known as the East-West Tollway, aka I-88. There was a nice sign pointing out that it is now the Ronald Reagan Memorial Tollway.
While I support most of what we can do to remember Reagan, I have to ask whether this is the best way to accomplish that. One of the biggest tax-cutters in US History is memorialized on a toll road? What’s next? Renaming the FBI headquarters after Richard Nixon?

Not as bad a way of memorializing the man as you think.
Reagan was big on user fees rather than general taxation to pay for parks and other amenities. What are tolls, other than user fees?
I was wondering if someone would bring that up. You’re right, this is true. Of course, I’d point out that only about 0.5% of the people traveling that tollway know that
