I Can See My House From Here!

Before:

After:

Some work with the chainsaw between myself and the neighbor, and some backbreaking work actually dragging all the trees up the hill to the fire pit, but well worth it, don’t you think?

All that, and I didn’t end up with any [more] chainsaw scars!

  1. Looks great, Brad! We’ve been doing a lot of the same lately – completely different appearing terrain, but getting rid of all the underbrush is only a good thing with the dry weather and all the fires we’ve had down here lately!

  2. A good start, but you need to get rid of those overgrown bushes along the walk in front of the door; I’d keep a few of them, put in some mulched berms with some roses accompanied by ornamental grasses, and add some boulders for a little extra flair.

Gah, the really sad thing is that all that immediately popped into my head when I saw the pictures…I think 54 hours worth of landscaping work this week may have been a bit overkill.

Anyway, glad to hear you didn’t hafta add any more chainsaw related scars…reminds me of the time we had a guy trimming trees with a chainsaw from the bucket of a skid-loader. That has to be breaking like 5 OSHA regs right there.

  3. Those are azaleas, which we hope to keep, but they really do need to be pruned back quite a bit. We’re a bit restricted, in that even after cutting down all those trees, we’re still in basically a full shade environment.

What will really be interesting is what the wife thinks when she gets back from CA on Tuesday, since I didn’t tell her I was going to do this :-)

  4. Heh, nice. It’s always fun to get a surprise when you come back from a trip…I once came back from Colorado to find we had another dog.

    Sucks about the shade, also.

  5. I kinda like the “overgrown” look and shade is a very good thing when it gets really toasty in the summer.

  6. Ditto all the “looks great”, it does. Chainsaws are fun.

Am I the only one who spotted the two (or at least two) guard dogs in the top picture?

  7. Not guard dogs, watch dogs

Guard dogs protect your house. Watch dogs get loud when an intruder is present to alert you to protect your house. They’re excellent barkers…
