Hot Potato!

Grossman is who we thought he was…

grossman

…an embarrassment.

Attn: Kyle Orton. Get yourself out of Chicago. ASAP! When Lovie lets Grossman start, and even brings in Griese to take the 2nd string spot, after you led the team to 10 wins as a rookie, it’s a bad sign. Get out and get to a team with decent management.

  1. Brad,

You are assuming that Orton is worth a damn. All he did last year was allow the defense to win games for them. It doesn’t matter what team Orton is on, he will always be a back-up or 3rd stringer.

  2. Nick,

I watched Kyle Orton for 3 years at Purdue. He’s a very smart QB, he’s got a great arm, and he makes good decisions. He’s basically a prototypical NFL QB, and he played well enough as a rookie backup to not cause them to lose those games last year. Remember, at Purdue he basically played almost 100% of his snaps from the shotgun, and then had to play under center in Chicago. That’s a bit of a big changeover.

Yes, he didn’t wow anyone. But before injury in 2005, he was basically the Heisman front-runner (at least top 3). When Drew Brees graduated from Purdue, it took him two or three years with the Chargers to become a Pro Bowl QB, and those first few years were pretty rough.

Orton, IMHO, has a lot of talent and could be a pretty good QB. I think the fact that he managed to win 10 games (or, more accurately, not screw up bad enough to lose those games) as a rookie is enough that he shouldn’t have been forced to 3rd string. I think he has earned a little better shot, and if the Bears aren’t going to give it to him, he needs to go elsewhere.
